How to cast Macbook to TV
There are a few ways to cast your MacBook screen to a TV, depending on your TV’s capabilities and your preferences:
1. Using AirPlay (for Apple TVs and compatible smart TVs):
- Check Compatibility: Ensure your TV supports AirPlay 2. Many newer smart TVs from brands like Samsung, LG, Sony, and others have built-in AirPlay 2 support.
- Same Wi-Fi Network: Make sure your MacBook and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Enable AirPlay on TV: Go to your TV’s settings and find the AirPlay or Apple AirPlay & HomeKit settings. Enable AirPlay.
- On Your MacBook:
- Click the Control Center icon in the menu bar (it looks like two toggle switches).
- Click Screen Mirroring.
- Select your TV from the list of available devices.
- If prompted, enter the AirPlay code displayed on your TV screen.
2. Using HDMI Cable:
- HDMI Port: Your MacBook needs an HDMI port (or a compatible adapter if it doesn’t have one).
- HDMI Cable: You’ll need an HDMI cable.
- Connect: Plug one end of the HDMI cable into your MacBook’s HDMI port and the other end into an HDMI port on your TV.
- Select Input: On your TV, use the input/source button on your remote to select the HDMI input your MacBook is connected to.
- Display Settings (if needed):
- Go to System Settings > Displays on your MacBook.
- You can choose to mirror your display or extend it.
3. Using Chromecast (with Google Chrome Browser):
- Chromecast Device: You’ll need a Chromecast device connected to your TV’s HDMI port.
- Same Wi-Fi Network: Ensure your MacBook and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Google Chrome Browser: Open the Google Chrome browser on your MacBook.
- Cast:
- Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of Chrome.
- Select Cast.
- Choose your Chromecast device from the list.
- Select whether you want to cast the current tab, your entire desktop, or a specific file.
